April 22nd, 2020 was the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. In recognition of this milestone Earth Day Network, the Wilson Center, the U.S. Department of State, and many others launched Earth Challenge 2020 as the world’s largest coordinated citizen science project to date. Earth Challenge seeks to involve millions of people in collecting and sharing 1 billion open, interoperable data points across six research areas: air quality, plastics pollution, food security, insect populations, water quality, and climate change.

Beginning with research and data analysis on insect populations in celebration of National Honeybee Day, this Tech Talk will introduce the project and showcase how Kinetica and other technologies are helping to engage people around the world to collect and share data to advance research and inform policy action. Citizen scientists can contribute to data collection for research purposes and enhance algorithms through feedback.
